Let's meet Joseph Guerra, "Joe"—a proud Salvadoran and owner of Mission Barbershop—is a true testament to giving back to the community that shaped him. Born and raised in the Latino Cultural District, near where Grocery Outlet stands, Joe has come full circle—serving the very streets that raised him.
Joe’s barbering journey began with a life-changing moment: his uncle asked him for a haircut. That experience ignited a passion, but unfortunately, his uncle passed away a month later before Joe could cut his hair again. That loss became a driving force behind his determination to pursue barbering as a career.
From renting chairs at 24th and Potrero (2013-2016) to working in the Excelsior for 2.5 years, Joe never stopped striving. On November 8, 2018, he achieved his dream by opening his first barbershop on 25th Street, where he thrived for six years. Now, on December 4th, Joe begins an exciting new chapter at 3160 24th Street—a space that truly feels like home.
For Joe, being a barber is more than just cutting hair—it’s about creating a bond with his clients, offering them a space where they feel seen, heard, and valued. “The beauty of a haircut is that you can take it anywhere,” he says.
Becoming a father at a young age and losing his uncle gave Joe the drive to push forward. Today, he feels honored and privileged to serve the Mission community, a place that has always shown him love. Whether it’s toy giveaways, community service, or simply offering a welcoming space, Joe is committed to giving back to the neighborhood he calls home.
This is more than a barbershop—it’s a hub for connection, culture, and community.
