Located on 24th Street in the heart of the Calle 24 Latino Cultural District, Donaji leverages its position to offer a unique Oaxacan dining experience to the Bay Area’s diverse community. Isai, with over 15 years of experience in the San Francisco restaurant scene, worked his way from dishwasher to executive chef. Before the pandemic, he operated a successful catering business that specialized in Oaxacan tamales made with organic masa and local ingredients. Although he had to close the business during the pandemic, Isai remained determined to bring his vision to life. Together with his wife Alison, who brings her own expertise in the restaurant industry and manages the bar area, Isai and Alison established Donaji to share the full Oaxacan experience. Now, with a full liquor license, Donají offers a range of beverages, including Mexican wines and carefully crafted cocktails.
The menu at Donaji reflects the richness of Oaxacan culinary traditions, showcasing organic, hand-made masa and locally sourced ingredients. Each dish blends Mexican and Oaxacan influences, with corn, native spices, and peppers taking center stage, all meticulously crafted to bring centuries of heritage to the table.
