About the event

Neblinas del Pacífico

Featuring Federico Ardila, Pipe Arrechea, May-Li Khoe, Juliana Mejía, Andrés Reyes on marimba de chonta, bombos, cununos, guasás, and vocals, Neblinas del Pacífico weaves a sonic tapestry of marimba de chonta music from the Afro-Colombian Pacific coast. They play music of rivers and mangroves, of percussive poly-rhythms and multi-part harmonies, of spirituality and everyday life, of ancestors and tradition, of celebration and resistance.

Based in La Mission de San Francisco, the members of Neblinas have roots in Colombia and Indonesia. They’ve collaborated with artists like la Reina de la Marimba Eryen Korath, Las Cafeteras, Fred Moten, and Guache, and organizations like Acción Latina, People’s Kitchen Collective, the SFMOMA, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Youth Speaks, Colectivo Colombia Resiste, and the Matatu Festival, among others, as well as the vibrant community of musicians in La Mission. Neblinas del Pacífico constantly learns from, partners with, and contributes 50% of all proceeds to Black-led grassroots community initiatives in Buenaventura, Guapi, Timbiquí, Tumaco, Quibdó, and Cali, Colombia.
